Abstract

This research aims to observe the status of cultivation sustainability of seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii in Talimau waters, Kayao sub-district, South Halmahera Regency, Province of North Moluccas.  The data were collected using the methods of observation and interview using the questionnaires to 30 seaweed cultivators. The data on the sustainability of seaweed cultivation consists of the ecological dimension, technical dimension, economical/financial feasibility dimension, sociocultural dimension, and institutional dimension. The analysis of the sustainability of the seaweed cultivation was conducted using Rapfish (Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries) to evaluate the sustainability of multidisciplinary fishery. The result of the analysis on RAP-RL showed that the sustainable value index of the ecological dimension at 82.64%, technical dimension at 77.37% (status: well sustainable), economic/financial feasibility dimension at 29.63% (status: less sustainable), sociocultural dimension at 76.00% and institutional dimension of 77,47% (status: well sustainable). Meanwhile, the sustainable value index of multi-dimension was at 50.56% (status: quite sustainable).
